Frequently Asked Questions

Help, I think I have bed bugs! What should I do?

Firstly, don’t panic. If you have discovered bites, but have not yet found conclusive evidence of bed bugs then it is important to start by confirming whether bed bugs are the culprit. This is where our network of certified scent detection teams may be able to help you. Enter your location of the Search page to find companies operating near you.

You can also find self-help advice on the identification and management of bed bugs on our sister site bedbugfoundation.org.

Found something suspicious? Put your mind at ease by making use of our free specimen identification service.

Why should I use BBF Certified Bed Bug Detection Teams?

There are currently no legal requirements for bed bug detection dog teams to pass a test. For this reason the quality of service that customers receive can be inconsistent.

The BBF works with a network of approved training schools to provide certification for bed bug detection dogs. Only companies with bed bug dogs that have passed certification within the past 12 months can be found on our website.

All of our teams have proven their ability to locate small numbers of bed bugs in a bedroom environment. Our teams are tested annually to ensure that they are performing to a high standard.
